Lagoon Trail in Layton

We used one of the last nice weather days this year to follow the trail behind the Lagoon Amusement Park. Lagoon opened on the shores of the Great Salt Lake in 1886. The park was later moved next to a nine acre pond in Farmington that gave it the name, Lagoon.

The trail was easy to find using GPS but there was a problem with parking. There is a small street by the south entrance but the neighbors don't allow parking there. We parked two blocks away at Farmington Junior High.

The trail is paved and shady. It's 2.1 miles long but we only traversed the Lagoon section of the trail.

The trail seems to end at 600 North but it continues on to Farmington Pond Lake. Next time we will park near the pond and follow the trail south. It was a beautiful fall day. The foliage on the mountains has already changed but the trees by the trail were still green.

The trail is well marked and easy to follow. There are many people skating, biking and using scooters. We saw people with dogs but they cleaned up after their pets so that was no problem.

Entering from the south and going north, we saw some of the Lagoon zoo animals off to our left almost as soon as we started on the trail.

There were some friendly horses opposite of the zoo and one of them tried to eat the sleeve of my jacket.

I had surgery on my eyelids and you can still see the bruises here.

I was intrigued with a log cabin next to the middle school. It has a cement foundation so it's not ancient but still interesting. There could be an architecture tour of the homes in this area as they are diverse and some are old.

The trail was built by Lagoon for maintenance purposes so you might see one of their vehicles. We didn't see any but we did see some of the old parts of the park.

The trail has been in use for a long time. There are a few old houses and old trees on the path.

Near the end of the Lagoon section of the park there is a covered bridge. There are three more bridges if you continue on the path and follow the section that runs next to the creek. We saw a little of the creek.

A nice person on the trail took our picture for us.

There are no restrooms on the south end of the trail but I am certain there is at least one at Farmington Pond Lake at the north end of the trail.

Mill B South Trail

This is one of our favorite places. It is steep at the beginning but it's no problem in a power chair. If you are pushing a wheelchair, you would have to dig in on this trail.

It's only .5 miles out and back but is heavily used because it connects to the Lake Blanche Trail. It's located in Big Cottonwood Canyon and many people get there via I-215.

There is only one handicapped parking space so it's prime territory. It's a small lot. You have to either get there early or park out on the street.

There is a restroom but I haven't used it so I don't know how accessible it is. The bulletin board next to the trail reminds you to watch out for Boreal toads. We watched out but, sadly, we didn't see any.

There was a fast running creek next to the trail on July 1 but it's hard to say what it's like other times of the year.

The trail is shady all the way.

There is a waterfall at the end and I understand there is a second one a little ways beyond where the pavement ends.

There is also a nice spot at the end where you can eat lunch or even have a little outside meeting.

Three Creeks Confluence

On Sept 12, 2021, we visited the place where three creeks join in Salt Lake City. The three creeks are Red Butte, Emigration and Parleys. ...
